Hilarious ‘interview of the year’ sees punter win £20,700 after putting all his money on horse he bought when drunk

THIS is the absolutely brilliant ‘interview of the year’ where a racing punter announces he’s just won £20,700 on a horse he bought when he was drunk.

The owner, known as Jarrod, cheered on rogue 60-1 outsider Retrospection to victory at Swan Hill racecourse in Australia on Friday.

The punter, called Jarrod, won more than £20,000 backing his no-hoper and said ‘this is for you, mum and dad!’
Viewers couldn’t help but laugh watching his incredible interview, as he recalled buying the horse when drunk and looking for a bus stop

Even a tenner on at those odds would have equalled a massive win, but Jarrod stuck a whopping $200 Australian – around £115 – at mega 180-1 odds well before the off.

That returned a stunning £20,700 pure profit on the punt – which the bettor said was for his mum and dad.

Incredibly, Jarrod and a few mates bought the horse for just £350 when they stumbled into trainer Daryl Archard’s yard after a few beers.

The runner more than returned his fee with the freak win, although it was Jarrod who stole the show.

He said on camera: “I had $200 on at 180-1, how’s that sound? That’s for you, mum and dad!

“We had a good jockey on today and a good trainer. He didn’t get close, he s**t in, let’s be honest!

“We’ve had a lot of horses, but this bloke is the best trainer you’ll ever have one with.

“I found him out of the Kyneton Post. I walked to his track one day, we put $600 down and here we are.”

Archard remembered the story of how the horse was bought a bit more clearly.

Laughing, he said: “It’s a funny story with this horse. Those guys who own the horse, they got drunk at the races back in March and they wandered over to my stables thinking it was the bus stop.

“They ended up walking out of there owning a horse!

“They just asked me if there was a share in a horse available and I said, ‘well, I think there’s one there if you want to go in’.”

Viewers were absolutely loving the scenes, which couldn’t help but bring a smile to your face.

One commented: “An absolute gold medal contender for the post-race interview of the year.”

Another said: “Fantastic post-race interview.”

A fellow Twitter user wrote: “Haha legends living the dream! Congratulations.”

One post read: “One of the best post race interviews I’ve seen!”

While another said: “What a day for these blokes. Love these stories.”
