Hollie Doyle Admits ‘Huge Mistake’ Could Cost Her Breeders’ Cup Ride

Jockey Hollie Doyle faces potential ban

Hollie Doyle, the talented jockey, has confessed to a "huge mistake" that may prevent her from riding Bradsell in the upcoming Breeders' Cup. Doyle recently received a suspended one-month ban for testing positive for a banned substance. Now, she faces a further seven-day ban for careless riding aboard Rose Light at Kempton, which could mean missing out on the prestigious world championships of racing at Santa Anita.

Doyle plans to appeal the ruling

Despite the setback, Doyle intends to appeal the riding ban, hoping to secure her spot aboard Archie Watson's star sprinter in the States. She has expressed regret for her actions, acknowledging that visually it may not have looked great, but insists that her actions were minimal. Doyle is set to appeal on Thursday, with representation from Rory Mac Neice.

Melbourne Cup still on the horizon

If the ban is upheld, it will be in effect from October 30 to December 6, just one day before Doyle is scheduled to ride Future History in the Melbourne Cup. Winning the prestigious Australian race would help soften the blow of missing the Breeders' Cup.

Record-breaking success with Bradsell

Bradsell has been a key part of Doyle's career, with the jockey riding the three-year-old colt in seven out of his eight career races. Together, they achieved Group 2 success in the Coventry at Royal Ascot in 2022 and followed it up this year with a win in the Group 1 King's Stand. Their partnership has earned connections over £500,000.

Betting odds for the Turf Sprint

Bradsell is currently priced at 8-1 for the Turf Sprint, with British and Irish raiders leading the field. Highfield Princess is the favorite at 4-1, followed by Adam West's Live In The Dream at 13-2. Recent Group 2 Newmarket winner Matilda Picotte is at 7-1, while Aesop's Fables from Aidan O'Brien's stable and Kinross from Ralph Beckett's stable are both at 10-1.
