Horse trainer gets one over his ex-wife as his 40-1 outsider beats her £450,000 1-4 favourite in race

An Epsom Derby-winning horse trainer had the last laugh when his 40-1 longshot defeated his ex-wife's £450,000 1-4 favorite in a race.

A Surprising Victory

Peter Chapple-Hyam, who previously won the prestigious Epsom Derby in 1992 and 2007, delighted in his horse Sharona's triumph at Leicester on Tuesday.

Peter's outsider defied the odds and won the seven-furlong race, which had a prize of just under £5,000 for the winner.

A Costly Loss

Unfortunately for Jane, her two-year-old colt Primo Lara, which she purchased for a significant sum at last year's Tattersalls sales, finished in second place. This marked the horse's second consecutive loss.

The aptly-named Loved By You, another contender in the race, finished a distant third, allowing the former couple to battle it out for the top spots.

Underdog Takes the Crown

Peter's two-year-old filly, Sharona, emerged victorious under the guidance of jockey Callum Hutchinson.

Following the race, some punters took to Twitter and mistakenly accused the still-divorced couple of orchestrating a "mad 1-2" finish.

Squashing the Rumors

Peter responded to these erroneous claims with some witty retorts.

When one punter suggested it was a fix, Peter jokingly replied, "No mate, just married."

Another comment praised the couple for their incredible placing, to which Peter replied, "Ha ha, like it, but been divorced for 18 years, sorry to ruin your theory."

Moving On

The estranged couple may still share a surname, but that's where their connection ends. They finalized their divorce in 2005.

After leaving their marital home of 18 years, Peter found himself sleeping on a friend's floor, using a blow-up mattress that needed to be inflated every night due to a puncture.

The pressures of the job had a detrimental effect on Peter's mental health, as he detailed in a candid interview.

Turning the Tide

Since those challenging times, Peter's fortunes have improved significantly. He has experienced a successful year on the track, with 14 winners and over £100,000 in prize money.
