Huge Burnley fan goes for £98,000 jackpot with wonderhorse named after club and backed by Clarets boss Sean Dyche

THE footy season might be over a month away, but owner Alan Tattersall has £200,000 reasons to roar home a winner after 3 o’clock this afternoon.

A huge Burnley fan, his Vintage Clarets holds a massive chance in today’s Super Sprint at Newbury.

And his horse could not be in better hands given he’s trained by Richard Fahey, a three time winner of the five furlong dust-up since 2013.

Even Burnley manager Sean Dyche will be cheering on the sprinter, who is only behind Chipotle in the betting for the big race today.

Fahey said: “Alan was over the moon with the video message he got from Sean, that was a nice surprise for him. It’s been posted on social media and lots of people have seen it.

“He’s a massive Burnley fan, but also a big supporter of mine and we’re hoping for another big day together. He told me the other day I’ve had 103 winners for him which is remarkable.

“And I own some of him myself so it would make it even better!”

Vintage Clarets ran a mighty race to finish third in the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot and Fahey reckons the drop back to five furlongs will do the trick.

He added: “We don’t think he quite got home at Ascot last time so we were very pleased to get third on the day.

“He’s come out of it very well, he’s bouncing at home and we’ve always had this on the radar.

Fahey hopes Vintage Clarets can become his fourth winner of the £200,000 race

“But he’s a very speedy horse and the drop to five furlongs should help plenty.

“It’s no secret we love this race, it’s a real working man’s race. There’s serious money on offer for horses bought relatively cheaply.

“We’re never scared of running two, three or even four in this – but this year I think we only need the one.”
