Huge gamble on Takingrisks as veteran backed into 12-1 from 40-1 for Grand National at Aintree

OVER £100 million is expected to be bet on the Grand National at Aintree this afternoon.

And punters are all over the veteran Takingrisks in the feature, due off at 5.15.

Takingrisks won the Scottish National in 2019 at Ayr

The admirable 12-year-old has been backed into as short as 12-1 from a huge 40-1.

A former Scottish National hero, the Nicky Richards-trained horse looks to have his perfect conditions this afternoon.

Set to be partnered by jockey Sean Quinlan, the horse won last time at Doncaster and should be primed for this £750,000 pot.

Meanwhile long-time favourite Cloth Cap is available at 11-2. He was as short as 7-2 in the week.

An expected gamble on Minella Times – to be ridden by golden girl Rachael Blackmore – is yet to materialise. He remains a 9-1 chance.

Willie Mullins struck in the dress rehearsal, the Topham, on Friday and he has Burrows Saint in the same colours in the big one today.

He has drifted out to 10-1 from 13-2 in some places.

At big odds, Sir Alex Ferguson’s Give Me A Copper is set to be popular with Man United fans.

Fergie has already made his mark on Liverpool this week with a memorable treble on the opening day.
