Huge Graham Lee Update: Injured Jockey Making Progress in Recovery

Graham Lee, the jockey who suffered a horrific fall at Newcastle Racecourse last week, is showing signs of progress in his recovery. Lee, a former Grand National winner, sustained damage to his spinal cord and was taken to intensive care at Royal Victoria Infirmary Hospital in Newcastle. However, he has since made positive progress and is now able to speak to his family intermittently when his ventilator is turned down.

Family Statement: Transfer to James Cook Hospital Expected

A family statement released regarding Lee's condition revealed that his Spinal Consultant has reviewed him and that he will be transferred to James Cook Hospital in Middlesborough when a bed becomes available in the ITU there. This will bring him closer to home and allow for continued treatment. Lee's family expressed their gratitude for the overwhelming support they have received during this difficult time.

Daughter Sets Up Fundraiser for Injured Jockeys Fund

Amy, Lee's daughter, has set up a JustGiving page to raise funds for the Injured Jockeys Fund in light of her father's accident. The page has already raised nearly £125,000 for the charity. Amy expressed her gratitude for the support they have received and how much of a difference it will make to her father's recovery.

AP McCoy's Selfless Act

Racing icon AP McCoy played a significant role in supporting Lee's family during this challenging time. He drove Lee's daughter, Amy, up to Newcastle in the middle of the night so she could be by her father's bedside. Trainer Gary Moore praised McCoy's selflessness and sent his best wishes to Lee and his family.
