Improving, stylish and ready for Constitution Hill – I’m certain this horse is my best Saturday chance

Legendary trainer Paul Nicholls believes he has a horse in his yard capable of taking on champion hurdler Constitution Hill. Nicholls will be devastated if his horse hits the target in a £70,000 race at Wincanton on Saturday.

Rubaud aims for victory at Wincanton

Paul Nicholls has high hopes for Rubaud, who has won his last three starts and is the hot favorite for the Grade 2 Elite Hurdle.

After an impressive performance in a Listed race at Kempton, Nicholls expects another strong showing from Rubaud at his local track.

"Rubaud is an improving young horse with a bright future. He has plenty in his favor after his classy success at Kempton. He continues to work stylishly at home and performs best on a flat track like Wincanton," said Nicholls.

Nicholls has left off the hood that Rubaud has worn in his last three starts, confident that the horse no longer needs it. Rubaud could potentially face off against Constitution Hill at Kempton over Christmas.

Big chances at Wincanton

Wincanton's big meeting offers several exciting prospects, including the highly regarded Knappers Hill, who is favored to win the Grade 2 Rising Stars Novice Chase.

Nicholls expressed his hopes for Knappers Hill, saying, "Hopefully there is not too much more rain at Wincanton for him, nearly good to soft would be ideal. He’s a classy horse, has won 10 of his 17 starts, and jumped nicely when second on his chasing debut at Chepstow."

Nicholls, a record 11-time winner of the £70,000 Badger Beer Chase, is also sending out Frodon and Threeunderthrufive as strong contenders.

"Frodon is a magic horse who starts his final season bidding to win the Badger Beer Chase under top weight for the second year in succession just short of his 12th birthday. He still loves his work, is so enthusiastic in everything he does, and enjoys a brilliant partnership with Bryony Frost," explained Nicholls.

He continued, "Threeunder was frustrating last season, but to be fair, he struggled with his breathing in his races. He had a win op in the summer and seems in very good shape ahead of his return to action. Crucially, he has won all five of his starts on right-handed tracks and he stays very well. The Badger Beer Chase looks like a perfect stepping stone for him."
