Meet Ella Dettori
Ella Dettori is the daughter of renowned jockey Frankie Dettori. As one of his five children, it's clear that Frankie's impressive career has made an impact on his family. Ella's mother is Catherine, and the couple got married in July 1997 in New Market, England. They share five children together: Ella, Leo, Mia, Tallula, and Rocco.
Auctioning for a wedding
In July 2023, it was reported that Ella was engaged and set to get married. To help fund the wedding, her father decided to auction off more than 100 "once-in-a-lifetime" items ahead of his retirement. The auction included items such as his jockey scales, a saddle, boots, and photographs. Some of the proceeds were planned to go towards Ella's 2024 nuptials. Frankie's international farewell tour is set to conclude at the end of 2023, and as part of his preparation, he was clearing out his Newmarket home, which will be available to rent for £15,000 a month.
Following in her father's footsteps
Ella has indeed pursued a career in horse racing, just like her famous father. Although she hasn't raced recently, she stepped into the world of horse racing, making her debut in July 2021 at the charity Magnolia Cup race at Glorious Goodwood. At 19 years old, she competed in her first-ever race as a jockey. The race ended in a dramatic dead-heat, with judges unable to determine the winner. Ella expressed her gratitude for her father's support and shared that her aim was to make him proud. Her mother Catherine and siblings Mia and Leo were also there to cheer her on.
What's next for Ella?
Ella doesn't appear to have raced since her debut. However, in September 2021, she revealed on her Instagram that she had started studying at Sheffield University. This could explain her absence from the racing scene. As for her future in horse racing, only time will tell if she will continue to pursue a career as a jockey.
