Is this the next Baaeed? Unbeaten superstar’s half-brother set to be unleashed in first race next month

BEST horse in the world Baaeed’s brother is set to be unleashed by William Haggas next month.

Chatter is rife in racing circles that we could be about to see another unbeaten superstar blaze a trail through the sport.

Baaeed has conquered all before him and has some exciting siblings in the pipeline – will Jim Crowley be riding them?

In truth, though, if Naqeeb can manage even a quarter of what his older half-sibling has then it will be a successful career.

Naqeeb is by Nathaniel, the star stallion who produced Derby winner Desert Crown.

He and Baaeed share the same dam in Aghareed, herself a Listed winner over 1m2f in 2012.

Shadwell-owned sensation Baaeed – whose sire is Sea The Stars – is a perfect ten from ten in his career.

He demolished rivals – including defending champion Mishriff – when stepping up to 1m2f for the first time in his career at York last week.

Three races look on the agenda now – and Haggas and owner Sheikha Hissa must decide which one will be his final ever race.

The safe money looks on it being the Qipco Champion Stakes at Champions Day at Ascot on October 15.

But a sensational tilt at the 1m4f Arc de Triomphe is also on the cards, as is the Irish Champion Stakes on September 10.

It’s not impossible that Baaeed could run at Leopardstown before either going to Ascot or Paris for the Arc the following month.

Interestingly, that timeframe marries up quite closely with when we could get to see Naqeeb.

The Racing Post report he has been with Haggas for ‘five or six weeks’ and is being prepped for his first race.

Richard Hills, assistant racing manager to Shadwell Estates, said of Naqeeb: “Baaeed’s brother is coming along nicely and has done some swining canters lately.

“He could be out at the end of September or October, probably over a mile if all goes well.”

Just as exciting is the prospect of a full brother or sister to Baaeed.

Aghareed is in foal to Sea The Stars, so she could produce another top class performer in the near future.
