MANCHESTER UNITED take on Liverpool on day two of the York Ebor festival – after Michael Owen landed a £36,000 winner on day one.

Sir Alex Ferguson co-owns the runner Red Power with his former Old Trafford star and the horse runs in the 2.25.

Fergie will be eyeing up a big winner on day two of the York Ebor festival

Meanwhile, Mr McCann, the horse owned by five Liverpool stars, will run to land the £36,000 winner’s prize in the 4.10.

Jordan Henderson, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Trent Alexander-Arnold, James Milner and Andy Robertson all chipped in to buy the horse for £65,000.

Former Red Adam Lallana also has a share.

Mr McCann, named after the Liverpool press officer, started out with a bang, winning two of his first three races.

But the two-year-old, trained by Tom Dascombe at Owen’s Manor House Farm yard, has gone off the boil lately and can be backed at a tempting 18-1 for today’s race.

His most recent win gave Owen the ‘most embarrassing moment’ of his life.

Victory at Haydock last month meant the former Liverpool, Man Utd and Real Madrid star had to collect the trophy on the players’ behalf.

And he had promised them beforehand that he would do the Hendo Shuffle if it won.

Owen is not normally associated with dodgy footwork but his moves had punters in stitches, with the man himself saying: “I had to do it, but it wasn’t the best.”

Meanwhile Red Power, who Fergie co-owns with Owen and two others, is available for an even bigger 22-1.

Another two-year-old trained by Dascombe, Red Power won his second race at Ayr back in June and followed it up with a runner-up finish and a most recent fourth.

Should he win today then Fergie and Owen, who share the horse with Betfred owner Fred Done and Ged Mason, will celebrate a £98,360 payday.

Owen has already been in the money this week thanks to his horse Flaming Rib winning the last on day one.

The 16-1 roughie shot up under in-form Pierre Louis-Jamin, who also rides Mr McCann.

Speaking of the win, a delighted Owen said: “Flaming Rib is a tough horse.

“I must admit out of the three (runners from Dascombe’s stable) he was the one that we fancied the most, but in a big field like that, a competitive field at a meeting like this, you can never be confident, but he has put in a really tough performance.

“There was a headwind out there, it’s a big wide open track. There were lots of runners.

“You have got to be professional to win here and he has certainly done it really well.”

And talking up the chance of a Liverpool double, Owen added: “One of our runners is Mr McCann, owned by five of the Liverpool players as the sixth man has now moved to Brighton.

“He has been another great success story for our stable.

“He carries a lot of weight and we have the same jockey riding, claiming off him, so fingers crossed.”

The Liverpool stars and former Red Lallana all own Mr McCann
