ITV Racing plan blockbuster return with 21 races to be shown over opening weekend including 1000 and 2000 Guineas

ITV Racing are hoping to fill the sporting void with a blockbuster return to our screens.

They plan to show 21 live races – including three Group 1s – from next Friday through to Sunday afternoon.

Ed Chamberlin – like most of the country – will continue to work from home

It all of course depends on the sport getting the government go-ahead for a June 1 resumption, but ITV chiefs have been busy behind the scenes to come up with a new schedule.

Ed Chamberlin and Francesca Cumani will present from the comfort of their home studios, with commentator Richard Hoiles working his magic remotely too.

The team will be joined by Jason Weaver, with the Opening Show also set for a comeback on the Saturday morning of the QIPCO 2000 Guineas at Newmarket.

Friday 5 June will be the first show on ITV4, taking in races from Newmarket that includes the Group 1 Coronation Cup, as well as three races from Lingfield that features their Oaks and Derby trials.

On the Saturday we switch to the main channel as attention switches to the first Classics of the year. The 2000 Guineas features from Newmarket, with a further three races from Newcastle. The rescheduled Sagaro Stakes is the highlight there.

The following day it is the turn of the girls in the 1000 Guineas, and racing from Haydock  will also be shown. The Brigadier Gerard – moved from Sandown Park – is the feature.

Numbers are expected to be huge with the majority of sports still on the sidelines and racing could have the perfect slot to promote the great game.
