A JOCKEY poses for a painful selfie after being airlifted to hospital following a horror fall.

Daniel Stackhouse looked in a world of discomfort with his neck in a brace and wires all over his body.

Stackhouse suffered broken ribs and a fractured pelvis plus a bleed on the liver as a result of his fall

The jockey, 31, had been on favourite Armansky in the fourth race at Kilmore in Australia when his mount suddenly went down.

Stackhouse, who has 860 career wins and more than £15million in earnings, stacked it into the path of oncoming horses.

In worrying scenes a helicopter was called, with the next race delayed by an hour so the jockey could be flown to hospital in Melbourne.

Fellow rider Dean Holland was also caught up in the carnage but walked away unscathed.

Both horses who went down were fortunately unhurt.

Stackhouse’s mate and fellow jockey Tatum Bull visited him in hospital and shared an update on his condition.

He said: “Left and right rib fractures, small liver bleed and small pelvis fracture will not keep him down for long.

“He is already counting down the days until he is back doing what he loves and riding winners.”

Stackhouse’s latest injury scare comes barely six months after he crashed his bike, resulting in extensive skin grazing.

His fall is the second incident to cast a cloud over Australian racing in a week.

Famed rider Damien Oliver was also rushed to hospital after a nasty spill.

The Melbourne Cup winner, 49, arrived at Warrnambol racecourse in a helicopter but left in the back of an ambulance following a stalls incident.

Oliver was crushed up against the barriers but fortunately a scan revealed he had not broken his neck and the horse was also unharmed.

The Victorian Jockeys’ Association confirmed: “Good news from Warrnambool hospital is that scans on Damien Oliver’s neck have returned clear of any fracture.”
