Jockey Brendan Powell DISQUALIFIED after winning Doncaster race for weighing in light

Jockey Brendan Powell was DISQUALIFIED after winning a race for weighing in light.

Powell had just ridden 15-2 shot Eaton Hill to victory in the 2m 3f Sky Sports Racing Sky 415 Handicap Hurdle.

Jockey Powell was disqualified after weighing in light following his win

But when weighing in after victory he was found to be 3lb lighter than before the race.

Jockeys are allowed a 1lb allowance – but obviously Powell’s discrepancy was more than that.

It meant runner-up Ecco, a 13-2 chance, was promoted to winner after a steward’s enquiry in the 2.17 at Doncaster.

The cause for the difference in weight was the disappearance of a lead cloth.

More to follow.
