JOCKEY Daryl Jacob probably hasn’t had many better Saturdays.
He landed a memorable 3725-1 five-timer at Wincanton, and in stylish fashion too.
Messire Des Obeaux’s impressive Grade 2 Dipper Novices’ Chase was the clear highlight.
But Jacob will be smiling for many reasons on the long drive home after he put on a riding clinic.
Jacob took until the third race on the card to get going, but once 7-2 favourite Ede’iffs Elton won it was clear he’d had his Weetabix.
Messire Des Obeaux then downed hot favourite Protektorat in the day’s feature.
Alan King’s nine-year-old looks a chaser on the up and earned quotes of 12-1 for the Marsh Novices’ Chase at the Cheltenham Festival.
Two down, three to go and Jacob’s momentum carried into the next as he produced a special ride on Capeland for Paul Nicholls.
Good things come to those who wait and the tricky customer enjoyed Jacob’s patience as he bolted up at 6-1.
Well-named Anightinlambourn was Jacob’s fourth victory. Ben Pauling’s seven-year-old cruised home by over five lengths.
And Jacob arguably saved the best until last as jack-in-the-box Jackson Hill hosed up at 7-1.
The horse was a livewire throughout and soon tugged Jacob to the front turning in to the straight.
But Jacob, full of confidence, handled the Milton Harris-trained horse to perfection.
Five winners. Not bad for a days work.
