Jockey David Egan treated himself to £115,000 gift after winning world’s richest horse race worth £14.5million

JOCKEY David Egan has revealed how he celebrated winning the world’s richest horse race.

Top jockey Egan, 22, stormed home on Mishriff in the £14.5million Saudi Cup last February.

Egan splashed out after landing the biggest win of his career – and deservedly so

The incredible victory at King Abdulaziz racecourse in Riyadh was worth an eye-popping £65,000 per second.

Egan took home around £750,000 for his heroics in the saddle.

And in a brilliant chat with friend and rival Cieren Fallon, Egan revealed how he splashed some of the cash he earned.

Fallon was asked what his pal bought after winning the race, and in the quiz-style format both had the same answer: Audi RS7.

The stunning motor has an RRP of around £115,000, though it can go well above that with added extras.

It has a top speed of 174mph and can do 0-60mph in just 3.6 seconds thanks to a giant four-litre engine.

Riding the world’s fastest horses – who get up to 40mph – must seem slow by comparison!

The car was richly deserved for Egan, who has enjoyed a breakthrough year.

Speaking after victory on the horse owned by Prince Faisal – a member of the Saudi royal family whose net worth is estimated at £1TRILLION – Egan said: “It’s unbelievable.

“I’ve been waiting all my life to ride a winner in a race like this. It’s a privilege to be connected to such a class horse.”

Turns out jockeys have a need for speed on four wheels as well as four legs.

Frankie Dettori loves Ferraris and even has a special heated garage to keep them in perfect condition.

Though he admitted his ‘frightening’ 430 Scuderia was too much for him and he had to swap it for a £190,000 488 Spider.

Dettori, 50, said: “I didn’t realise when I ordered it that it’s a racing car with a number plate.

“It had really uncomfortable bucket seats and I had to sit on a cushion just to see over the steering wheel.

“That car was a beast. It has carbon-ceramic brakes, unbelievable g-forces when cornering.

“Every time I drove it I got bruises.

“It frightened me so I got rid of it.

“I’m very happy to be a Ferrari owner once again, but with one that’s a bit tamer and with comfy seats.

“I only take it out when it’s dry and I keep it in a special heated garage.”
