JOCKEY James Best paid an emotional tribute to trainer Zoe Davison after Brown Bullet’s Plumpton win.
Davison has been suffering with cancer for four-and-a-half years but her daughter Gemma revealed it has spread in recent weeks.
Her daughter has admitted they were taking each day as it comes and you could see how much the victory meant to Best.
Fighting back the tears, he said: “What a lovely family they are. I was only in there this morning.
“I’ve had an awful lot of rides for them over the last two years, but that was actually my first winner for Zoe today.
“What a tough lady she has been for the last four-and-half, five years – and you could see what it meant just to get a winner for the whole team.
“They all work so hard and I can’t even imagine to begin to imagine how tough it’s been for Andy, Gemma and all of the daughters.
“I’d like to thank Zoe for all the support she’s given me the last couple of years and they do a tremendous job with everything they have and we’re all thinking of the whole family.”
Fellow trainer Martin Keighley also tweeted his well wishes.
He added: “Great ride by James Best to win on Brown Bullet Plumpton for Zoe Davison.
“Hope it gives her a much needed pick me up. Could see how much that winner meant to James.”
Daughter Gemma posted a message to followers thanking them for their support on social media at the end of December.
She said: “Thank you, to each and every one of you, that have sent well wishes.
“Unfortunately mum (Zoe) is suffering from secondary breast cancer.
“She has put up an incredible fight for four-and-a-half years, sadly the cancer has spread in her body.
“Zoe wanted to hold out for Christmas and has done so.
“We’re now taking each day as it comes.”
