Jockey Jerry McGrath ‘rushed to hospital for x-rays’ after horrific Lingfield pile-up

JOCKEY Jerry McGrath has been taken to hospital after a horror fall in the last race at Lingfield.

Three horses and riders came down in the incident and McGrath, Alexander Thorne and Jordan Nailor all received medical attention.

But McGrath was down longest after the fall from Vegas Blue and has been taken to Brighton hospital for x-rays.

McGrath, on the Nicky Henderson-trained even money favourite, was in the rear of the field when trying to make a move turning in.

But Vegas Blue clipped the heels of a rival and soon came down.

On the right of Vegas Blue were the unlucky pair of Nailor and Thorne on Perfect Percy and Lord Howard respectively.

They stood no chance and both came down on the all weather surface as well.

Lucky’s Dream would end up winning the messy race at 6-4 for trainer Ian Williams.

But all three jockeys that came down soon received medical treatment. Thankfully Nailor and Thorne were able to get up and avoid serious injuries.

But McGrath’s lengthy treatment meant the stewards’ enquiry was suspended and he was taken to Brighton Hospital.

All three horses also escaped serious injury and two even got loose and galloped on after their falls.

McGrath is part of the powerful Henderson operation and has ridden plenty of big winners for the yard.

He partnered Beware The Bear to success at the Cheltenham Festival and has also ridden the likes of Verdana Blue and Santini.

The 29-year-old is also a bloodstock agent.
