HOSPITALISED jockey Josh Moore is in a critical condition with his family by his side due to a serious chest infection.
The 29-year-old suffered a fall at Haydock on Saturday and needed an emergency operation on a broken leg.
Moore only returned to action recently after a fall in October meant he missed much of the season
But due to complications after surgery his recovery has been hampered after he picked up the infection while in hospital.
A statement from the Injured Jockeys’ Fund said: “Following his fall at Haydock Park on Saturday, jockey Josh Moore is in Critical Care at Aintree University Hospital.
“After successful surgery to his femur, his recovery has been made complicated by a serious chest infection which has required him to stay sedated on the ventilator and has delayed definitive treatment of his injuries.
“The specialist medical team are working hard to treat Josh, and his family remain by his bedside.”
Moore already missed a chunk of the season after an October fall at Plumpton where he fractured his back and broke ribs after which he needed surgery on his spine.
His operation was delayed for a week as hospitals struggled to cope during the Covid-19 waves.
That came after he suffered from concussion over the summer and spent most of those months on the sidelines.
This year he’s only been able to ride 17 winners and his latest setback means he will be unable to add to that in the near future.
On Sunday the rider was moved to intensive care before his operation on Monday.
Moore has always been involved in the sport with his dad Gary a successful trainer and his brothers Jamie and Ryan also top jockeys.
