TOP jockey Paddy Brennan had fans in stitches as his mum celebrated his big Warwick winner.
He rode Imperial Alcazar to victory live on ITV4 yesterday afternoon as his red-hot form continued.
Fergal O’Brien’s 5-1 shot ran out a cosy enough winner of the competitive Pertemps qualifier race for the Cheltenham Festival.
But it was Brennan’s mum’s celebrations that were the real winner.
Clutching her newspaper with the colours at hand, and hair rollers in for good measure, she screamed ‘come on Patrick’ as he battled up the straight.
“Come on Patrick, come on! Mother of Mary, keep you safe and protect you!” she roared.
And it seemingly did the trick as Brennan cruised to his 56th winner of the campaign.
The video has already racked up close to 90,000 views and Brennan will be having to keep the paparazzi at bay at this rate.
And trainer O’Brien – also enjoying a brilliant season – has high hopes for the horse for the rest of the season.
He said: “We’ve been talking the horse up to the owners for a long time. He has not had many runs and we kept him in bumpers for a long time. It is only his second run of the season and we have been very patient, but they have been rewarded today.
“We think he is a very nice horse and hopefully he will keep progressing.
“We could treat him as Stayers’ Hurdle type.
“We will have a look nearer the time who goes where. Whether things change with Covid as to who comes over from Ireland, so that is why we put him in the Stayers’. It’s a lovely problem to have.”
Earlier on the card Next Destination and Tom Lacey’s Adrimel both entered Festival calculations with their wins in respective Grade 2s.
Brennan returns to the saddle at Lingfield on Monday afternoon on their jumpers for bumpers card.
