, Jockey Rab Havlin looking to appeal 21-day ban that caused punter fury at Lingfield

JOCKEY Rab Havlin hopes to appeal his 21-day ban he picked up at Lingfield on Wednesday.

The stewards called in the rider after his second-place finish on 16-1 poke Stowell.

Havlin is an important part of the all-star John Gosden team

Stablemate and odds-on shot Polling Day won the race under Frankie Dettori and the stewards said: “Havlin was suspended for failing to take all reasonable and permissible measures to ensure Stowell obtained his best possible placing.”

A representative of the John and Thady Gosden stable said after the race there were happy with the ride when quizzed in the enquiry.

But BHA stewards were not convinced and handed Havlin a three week ban.

The jockey is a huge cog in the wheel of the mighty Gosden team in Newmarket and confirmed he hoped to appeal the ban.

His horse Stowell ended up a narrow second to Polling Day

Professional Jockeys Association (PJA) Chief Paul Struthers confirmed: “Rab has asked us to look at the race with a view to appealing, and a decision will be made within the allotted deadline, which is close of business tomorrow.”

Punters were left floored by the race and the stewards report continued: “Taking into account how well Stowell ran on up the straight despite being tenderly ridden, and the diminishing distance that the colt was beaten, Havlin was suspended for 21 days.”

Respected ITV Racing and Sky Sports Racing pundit Jason Weaver was another that questioned what he saw.

He described Havlin’s ride as ‘very, very kid gloves’.
