Jockey Ryan Maloney escapes injury after nasty fall from favourite during $2m race – and claims he should have won

RYAN MALONEY escaped serious injury after a nasty fall from big favourite Isotope in the Gold Coast Magic Millions Guineas.

Maloney took a painful looking fall as he looked to get through the inside of Away Game.

Isotope seemed to clip heels with Away Game and shook the 35-year-old from the saddle.

Isotope went off as the heavy favourite and was well positioned to take control of the race before the incident.

Maloney was taken to hospital to be checked out but Punters.au report that he has since told trainer Tony Gollan that he’s fine and believes the filly would have romped to victory if he’s stayed on board.

Cameras picked up on Maloney getting back to his feet, while Gollan Racing tweeted that Isotope was doing well and was receiving some TLC.

Chief steward Peter Chadwick has opened an enquiry into the incident.

The $2m dollar race was won by long shot Aim, owned by Peter and Paul Snowden.

Aim was without a win in over a year and was due to be sold but Paul Snowden was delighted the deal didn’t come off.

“He is back as a gelding this preparation … he was sold but the money didn’t come through so we just play on,” Snowden said.

“Look what we’ve got today, thank you very much for not buying the horse.

“This horse probably lost his way a wee bit but we kept running into wet tracks and he just doesn’t let down on them.”
