A JOCKEY is said to be fighting ‘critical injuries’ after a fall just two days before a fellow rider was ‘trampled to death’ in a race.

Indian jockey Irvan Singh was rushed to intensive care after falling off his horse in a race in Chennai on New Year’s Day.

Singh is one of India’s top jockeys but has suffered ‘critical injuries’ after a fall

Singh, one of the country’s top riders, was aboard 18-1 shot Chaitanya, when it fell after stumbling mid-race, according to reports.

B R Sharan Kumar, a leading racing journalist in India, posted a message saying Singh was ‘fighting critical injuries’.

A report on mid-day.com said Singh, 30, was ‘recuperating’ in intensive care and Kumar later added the jockey’s condition had ‘stabilised’.

Singh’s incident came two days before tragic Jitendra Singh was killed during a race.

It was claimed at the time that the 24-year-old, from northern India, was trampled just seconds into the contest.

“He was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him brought dead on arrival.

“We suspect that he was trampled by horses and suffered internal injuries.”

However, it has now been claimed that Singh died after suffering a cardiac arrest.

Fans were in shock at the news of his death and posted their condolences online.

One said: “Tragic news coming in from Hyderabad, jockey Jitendra Singh who was on Gold Label who went down in the fourth race has passed away! RIP.”
