Jockey’s Nightmarish Encounter with Attacking Birds on Racecourse

Jockey's Close Call

A jockey had a terrifying experience on a racecourse as he was chased and attacked by giant birds. Jye McNeil, a former Melbourne Cup winner, was walking the Bendigo track in Australia when the birds swooped down on him. Footage shows McNeil running and ducking for cover, laughing at first until he realized the danger he was in.

Aerial Assault

The incident occurred as McNeil was checking the ground before a race. A plover bird swooped down from above and attempted to bite him. The jockey quickly fell to the ground to protect himself and then sprinted back to the safety of the parade ring. Although the birds pursued him a couple more times, McNeil managed to escape their attacks.

Frightening Experience

McNeil described his ordeal, saying, "I had a bit of an experience before the first race where I got attacked by a few birds and tripped over. I felt all the areas of the track as I was rolling around on the ground. I was scared." He also expressed his disappointment that none of the other jockeys warned him about the bird attacks before he walked the track.

Twitter Reacts

The incident amused Twitter users, who shared their amusement at the jockey's misfortune. One user joked that it was the "stuff of nightmares," while another said, "This is hilarious. Watching on repeat."
