John Gosden and Aidan O’Brien responsible for all eight entries in Saturday’s King George in field headed by Enable

THERE were no surprises when the eight entries for Saturday’s King George were revealed.

Enable, the brilliant mare chasing an unprecedented third win in the historic Ascot race, will face a maximum of seven rivals this weekend.

She could be joined by stablemate Fanny Logan, who continued her progression with a tidy win in the Hardwicke at Royal Ascot.

But the remaining six challengers are all from the Aidan O’Brien stable – a timely warning for the sport that perhaps too much power resides in too few hands.

Heading the Ballydoyle challenge is Magical, who has tried in vain to beat Enable five times so far in her career.

But she has pushed her old rival close on more than one occasion and she warmed up for the King George with a bloodless win in the Pretty Polly at the Curragh.

Japan, a dual Group 1 winner who was just behind Enable when third in the Coral-Eclipse last time, has also been entered by O’Brien.

The record-breaking trainer has given entries to a pair of Classic winners, namely Anthony Van Dyck and Sovereign.

The former will try to get his career back on track after a disappointing effort at Royal Ascot, while the latter hasn’t been seen since springing a 33-1 upset in the Irish Derby a year ago.

Globe-trotter Magic Wand and the frustrating Sir Dragonet are also possible contenders.
