, Leading female jockey Jamie Kah reveals ‘weird’ changing room superstitions that led to her axing her valet

LEADING female jockey Jamie Kah has opened up on her ‘weird’ and ‘strange’ changing room superstitions.

Jockeys usually have a valet to sort everything for them in the 30 minutes or so between races.

Kah says her superstitions in the jockeys’ changing room are ‘weird’
The trailblazing Australian jockey likes things her own way

But Kah recently gave one the chop following a disagreement in how one of her items was prepared.

Australian rider Kah – top of the Melbourne rankings – admits she is ‘very particular’ about how her cap, helmet and silks are handled.

What might seem a small thing to you and me is of huge importance to Kah, who admits her routine verges on that of the obsessive compulsive.

She said: “I’m very particular about little strange things.

“I like the way my hat cover goes on my helmet and I like the way my gear goes on top of my saddle when I weigh out, it’s my little weird trait.”

Asked why she gave one worker the boot, Kah said: “I didn’t like the way she put my hat cover on.

“It gets quite busy between races, it’s probably good, it keeps me occupied and I don’t really sit and think about it [rides] too much.

“I’m not one to do a lot of form.”

Kah is one of the top Australian jockeys and is particular about how all her equipment is laid out

Kah, 25, has exploded onto Australia’s racing scene in much the same way superstar Hollie Doyle has done in the UK.

The Melbourne-based rider sits atop the Victoria Jockey Premiership with 64 wins since August last year.

She has won just shy of £4million in that time.
