Loving groom who stole hearts with Cheltenham tears after Dysart Dynamo’s fall & recovery opens up on touching incident

DYSART DYNAMO and his loving groom Joanna Walsh are set for a return to the racecourse at Punchestown later this week.

The horse fell at the Cheltenham Festival last month but survived the horrific incident, sparking emotional scenes.

Dysart Dynamo is led away by his relieved groom Joanna Walsh

After springing back to his feet, to the cheers of a relieved Cheltenham crowd, he was led away by his groom Walsh, who wiped away tears while giving the seven-year-old a hug.

Speaking to Racing Post, Walsh said: “At this stage I was starting to stop crying and then they put the screens down and I heard the roar and off I went again, sobbing, thinking, ‘Oh my God, they love him!’

“I was walking him around before the Supreme and heard the Cheltenham roar when they started. It was loud, but not as loud as the cheer Dynamo got.”

“I just watched and thought, ‘He’s grand, he’ll get up in a second’, but he didn’t move. I got to him before the screens went up – I don’t think I’d ever run so quick in my life.”

There was widespread relief among punters on the day too, with one saying: “winner of the day”, while another posted: “best result of the day.”

Dysart Dynamo is known as a trailblazing front-runner and was a 28-length winner of his chasing debut when tearing off in front and never being sighted by his rivals.

The Arkle was ultimately won by El Fabiolo, also trained by Willie Mullins.

He was no match for his stablemate at Leopardown’s Dublin Racing Festival in February and was giving best to that rival again when falling at Cheltenham.

It will be round three between the stablemates on Thursday in the Barberstown Castle Novice Chase.

El Fabiolo is a general 1-4 ante-post favourite, with just the five runners declared at the five-day stage.

That is likely to be four, however, as Saint Roi, also trained by Mullins, ran just two weeks ago at Aintree.

Dysart Dynamo is 5-1, while the sole potential British chance is Notlongtillmay, who finished second to Stage Star in the Turners at Cheltenham.
