Man Utd fans can score with £32,000 horse named after striker making his debut at Southwell today

MANCHESTER UNITED fans could score with a horse named after one of their strikers today.

No prizes for guessing which Uruguayan forward Edinson Kevani shares his name with.

A horse who shares his name with Cavani will make his debut at Southwell today

The spelling is slightly different but, being bought for £32,000, the two could share the same quality on the pitch and on the racetrack.

Edinson Kevani is a two-year-old gelding making his debut at Southwell in the 1.36.

Jockey Nathan Evans gets the ride on the Wendy Burdett-owned horse, who is trained by Phillip Makin.

The horse – who joins a long list of runners named after footballers – is currently 20-1 but Makin has a good record with two-year-olds at the course so an each-way bet could be the way forward.

Makalu is currently the 11-10 favourite in the 5f contest over the all weather.

But only two horses in the seven-horse race have competed before so there is potential for an upset.

Edinson Cavani has been operating at a decent strike rate this season with seven goals in all competitions.

However, he has not scored in his past four games after netting in consecutive matches against Southampton and Everton at the start of February.

But it looks like the 34-year-old could be out the door at the end of the season.

His contract is drawing to an end – but United bosses have reportedly met with his people to convince him to stay.

Cavani is believed to be unsettled in England and has been linked with a move to Argentina side Boca Juniors.
