Massive gamble landed at Thirsk as David Evans’ Choux punted in to 100-30 from 40-1 just minutes before the off

TRAINER David Evans was in the money on Saturday as his horse Choux landed a monster gamble.

His Choux was punted in to 100-30 from 40-1 just minutes before the off at Thirsk having her first ever run.

Trainer David Evans has a decent record with juvenile fillies

As the first prices came through, you could get 40-1 on the two-year-old filly.

But that soon plummeted and she was soon 5-1. As the race went off she was even shorter at 100-30, the price she returned.

With 6-4 favourite El Hadeeyah failing to fire and only managing ninth, Choux ran out a cosy one-and-three-quarter-length victory.

Jockey Shane Kelly fired her out of the stalls and she always looked in charge on the pace.

Afterwards the jockey smiled: “I don’t know what she’s beat, but she was quietly impressive I thought.

“When I let her go, it was never really in any doubt to be honest.

“I’d imagine we could go to Royal Ascot now, there aren’t many more options at this time of the season.

“She’s got a pretty good mind. Ascot is a different ball game but I imagine Dave will roll the dice. Happy days, she’s won, you can’t do anymore than that!”

And punters were impressed with connections for getting one over the bookies.

One said: “If the stable can keep the ability of the horse quiet and pile on, then good luck to them.”

Another added: “Why is anyone upset about giving bookies a taste of their own medicine well in those who were on!”
