Matt Chapman talks all things Defi Du Seuil, the BHA and a slight mishap in his latest column

SO Defi du Seuil smashed up Un De Sceaux at the weekend at Ascot and have just made the Altior camp take notice as far as the Queen Mother Champion Chase is concerned.

But who or what has made my latest Good Bad Ugly column?

Catch me if you can – Defi Du Seuil is now as short as 2-1 for the Champion Chase

GOOD

Guilty! Defi du Seuil has to take pride of place this time around as he quickened up well for the master trainer Philip Hobbs in the Clarence House on ITV.

That said, I’m still in the Altior camp come Cheltenham.

There is no doubt Defi Du Seuil is getting his act together, but I’m not sure beating Un De Sceaux is all it looks on paper.

Firstly, I’m sure Paul Townend will wish he had gone quicker than he did – he went miles too slow – and secondly there’s every sign that two miles is simply too short for Un De Sceaux at the age of twelve.

A crucial mistake for the latter two out allowed Defi du Seuil to go clear, but the way Un de Sceaux kept on strongly suggested the latter just needs further.

BAD

The BHA needs a new chief executive after the departure of Nick Rust. It’s not a job I will get. I think the BHA is currently in total turmoil and all faith in the organisation has been lost by many including me.

There was once a time when I believed in the BHA and thought it had racing’s interest at its heart.

Now I don’t trust anything that happens there and I know I am not alone.

Shocking decisions, no accountability and continual defence of the indefensible is now the norm for the BHA. I for one have had enough of the organisation.

UGLY

Saturday was not a good morning for me. Leaving Mrs El Amina Chappo at 7am – something I struggle with at the best of times! – while all snuggled up was one thing (hmmmmm so cosy), but then in the middle of the Opening Show on ITV disaster struck.

I walked straight into a hanging camera and cracked my forehead open. It’s on these occasions the ‘team’ nature of a show comes to play.

Well at least to a certain extent. Oli Bell and Mick Fitzgerald were in fits of laughter, while Richard Hoiles was begging the camera people to see if they had it on film!

Luckily, others were quick to come to the rescue and rushed me off to the medical centre.

Oh my. For those concerned a full recovery is expected and my modelling contract is safe!!!
