Matt Chapman talks Oisin Murphy, Enable’s Arc chances and the Kentucky Derby in his latest column

THERE was plenty happening this weekend and plenty to look forward to in the coming days and weeks!

So who or what has made it into my latest Good, Bad and Ugly column? Let’s find out…

GOOD

Oisin Murphy celebrated his 25th Birthday on Sunday just 24 hours after his success in the Group 1 Sprint Cup.

Before Murphy got on top of Dream Of Dreams for Sir Michael Stoute he was a nearly horse, winning six times from 27 races but getting defeated narrowly under some of the world’s top jockeys at the highest level.

Murphy is now unbeaten in two starts on Dream Of Dreams, scoring in style at Newbury over seven furlongs before taking yesterday’s race with ease.

I’m a supporter, that is true, because I truly believe he’s a special talent. But what Murphy has done on Dream Of Dreams for the legend that is Sir Michael Stoute speaks for itself.

I’d love Dream Of Dreams to now run in the Breeders’ Cup Mile. How about it Sir Michael?

BAD

Social media is an odd thing. I wasn’t impressed with Enable at Kempton on Saturday but because of that on Twitter I was immediately said to dislike the horse.

Forgive me for having an opinion people! How crazy!

I love Enable, always have and always will, but I like to say what I see and there was nothing in the September Stakes that made me feel that Enable was better than ever.

And the simple truth is that to win three Arc de Triomphe’s she will probably have to be better than ever. Because in her big rival Love she faces an absolute monster.

I did not like Enable at the start, and I have no idea why one of the other jockeys did not take the bull by the horns and see what they could do from the front.

I did not like Frankie Dettori looking down at the top of the home straight. And I didn’t really think she stretched out as I would have expected in the final two furlongs.

If people think that Love and probably one or two others could not have beaten Prince Of Arran that easily then that is up to them. I would love Enable to win a third Arc. I hope she does. She has been incredible for this great sport.

But she will have to be a lot better than she was at Kempton on Saturday to do so. Get real people.

UGLY

British star Enable won, but US star Tiz The Law got beat in the Kentucky Derby by the Bob Baffert victor Authentic.

And the defeat of Tiz The Law was down to one man, Paco Lopez the rider of Ny Traffic. Not much was said in the US coverage about the ride of Ny Traffic, but the only thing on Lopez’s mind was to keep Tiz The Law out wide and in as much trouble as possible for half of the race. It worked.

The favourite got beat, although whether it helped the chance of Ny Traffic is another matter as he eventually finished eighth.

Lopez has always been a bit of a loose cannon. He does his own thing. And he rides loads of winners. But he stopped Tiz The Law winning the Kentucky Derby.

Fair? You decide.
