Matt Chapman: Trust me… Energumene will be nowhere near the winner of the Champion Chase… & Tiger Roll’s sorry state

I’M missing something with Energumene – but I have no idea what!

Anyway, for what it’s worth, and of course coming from someone who thought Chacun Pour Soi was a good thing at Sandown Saturday, I don’t think Energumene will be anywhere near the winner in the Queen Mother Champion Chase.

Chappers can’t see what all the fuss is about

There. I have said it. And you can all have a right old giggle at me in March should he win.

Accept you shouldn’t. What you should say, if you are decent, is fair play for giving an opinion even if it was nuts.

Anyway, back to Energumene.

Bookmakers have got very jiggy by his defeat of Daly Tiger and Sizing Pottsie at Cork yesterday.

Why? I have no idea. But they have.

Maybe Daly Tiger excites them. After all he was tailed off last on his previous run.

I mean that’s quite exciting in being terrible.

Ironically the horse everyone has cursed for not running is the horse who has most benefitted over the last few days.

Let’s face facts. Greaneteen is no Champion Chase hero unless it’s a poor year, and Chacun let us all down.

It now looks to me as if Shishkin merely needs to line-up on March 16 to score.

On the day I suspect the 7-4 will look massive as most of those close to him in he betting right now won’t even be there!

WHAT’S HAPPENED TO THE TIGER?

Us TV lot need to stop getting excited by Tiger Roll. I’m not even sure the dual Grand National hero is even loved by the people.

Maybe he was once, but to be honest his story has become one of sadness rather than joy.

To see him tailed off at Aintree, in a race any sane person knew he should not be in, was sad to the extreme on Saturday.

I was asked in the morning if I thought 20-1 was a big price for the Many Clouds.

I said he should be 200-1.

It’s not fun or enjoyable for racing fans to see. It’s sad and pathetic.

I want to say how sorry I am for you Tiger Roll. You deserved better than this. For me the sport has let you down.

Here we are worrying about whether one tap of the whip is too many – and there you are Tiger being pulled up having had a horrible day out.

Tell me how that works?

It’s the Hong Kong International races this week, and all the jockeys should be raring to go as they have nothing to do but isolate.

The perfect chance to catch up on sleep you would think.

Well at least nearly for all.

I’m led to believe – of course I might be wrong – that Hollie Doyle and Tom Marquand have an adjoining door which allows them to sneak into each other’s rooms!

Now I’m sure they will rest like their colleagues and just snuggle up and watch Netflix. Aren’t you?!
