Miracle at Fontwell: Punter Wins £7,000 Bet While in Coma

From Coma to Cash: An Unbelievable Story

A miraculous turn of events unfolded at Fontwell as former brickie Trevor Jacobs, who won a £7,000 bet while in a coma, shed tears of joy after another big win. Last March, Trevor's son Ryan placed four bets on three horses, known as a trixie, leading to a massive jackpot. Even more astonishing, Trevor received the news while lying in intensive care. The racing fanatic, who couldn't move or talk, was overwhelmed by the consultant's announcement.

The Latest Chapter of a Fairytale Recovery

Trevor's fairytale recovery reached new heights on Wednesday when his horse Soigneux Bell triumphed in a 2m1½f hurdle race. While the win earned him £4,357, less than his original bet, the joy of being back on the racecourse was priceless. Despite being wrapped up in a blanket to keep warm in his wheelchair, Trevor couldn't contain his emotions.

Gratitude for Unwavering Care

Trevor expressed his gratitude for the incredible care he received during his life-threatening ordeal. However, he revealed that there was one missing element. Speaking to Sky Sports Racing, Trevor wished he could bring the nurses who looked after him during his 16-month hospital stay to share in his triumph. He described their care as "fantastic" and praised the NHS, stating that until one experiences it firsthand, they cannot truly appreciate its excellence. The hospital had become a second home for Trevor, making his recovery all the more meaningful.

A Brush with Death and a Diagnosis

Trevor's journey began when he returned from a golfing holiday in Bruges and experienced weakness in his leg during the early hours of the morning. Despite the struggle, he managed to crawl downstairs and call his son for help. Medical tests initially provided no answers, but when the condition spread to his lungs, Trevor was placed in a coma. His heart stopped twice, but doctors managed to revive him. It was then that he received a diagnosis of Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS), an autoimmune disease that impairs bodily functions such as walking and breathing. Trevor compared the experience to having a "hand grenade being thrown into his body."

More details to come as the story unfolds.
