Money comes for Frankie Dettori mount in Derby at Epsom as bookies report cash for John Leeper and Templegate’s Oaks tip

THE cash has started to come for Frankie Dettori’s mount in the Derby.

The Italian got a last minute call-up to ride John Leeper for trainer Ed Dunlop and the bookies have already seen plenty of support.

Frankie Dettori will ride John Leeper in the Derby at Epsom

A 9-1 shot before the jockey switch from Adam Kirby to Dettori, John Leeper is now just 13-2 with most bookies.

Up to £20 million will be bet on the big race at Epsom tomorrow and the layers expect plenty of that dosh to be put on Dettori and John Leeper.

A leading British hope, a John Leeper win would be emotional for trainer Dunlop, with the horse named after his late father John ‘Leeper’ Dunlop.

It would also ensure another famous Frankie dismount.

Bolshoi Ballet remains rock-solid at the top of the Derby betting and close to even money in most books.

Away from the jolly, it’s John Leeper that is expected to continue to see support.

Nicola McGeady of Ladbrokes reported: “Derby weekend is a massive event on the sporting calendar, with twenty million pound expected to be gambled across the industry.

“Not only is the Epsom Classic the biggest betting flat race of the season, but this year’s renewal looks to be another fascinating race.

“There is a huge amount of confidence behind the favourite but momentum is starting to build for Frankie Dettori and John Leeper.”

William Hill’s Rupert Adams said: “We can report significant support the Frankie Dettori ridden John Leeper for the Derby on Saturday with the price cut from 9-1 into 13-2.

“As is often the case, it is all about getting Frankie beaten, as a Frankie victory well decimate the bookies.”
