Multiple Group 1 winner The Tin Man out to show his mettle in the Hackwood Stakes at Newbury

THE Tin Man is in rattling good form ahead of Saturday’s Hackwood Stakes.

Champion jockey Oisin Murphy will be doing the steering as James Fanshawe’s star sprinter chases a second win in the Newbury Group 3.

Now an eight-year-old, he blew away the cobwebs with a running-on seventh in the Diamond Jubilee last month.

And if his demeanour at home is anything to go by, Newmarket-based Fanshawe will be very hopeful of a big run.

Fanshawe told Sun Racing: “If he shows the same enthusiasm at Newbury as he is showing at home at the moment he should run well.

“He is in great form and took the Ascot race well, he may just have been a bit rusty there.

“He lost a bit of ground at the start but he finished his race off well and he was only beaten four lengths.

“At the time we were perhaps a little disappointed, but when you look at the race again he actually wasn’t beaten too far and it was his first run of the year.

“Hopefully he has come on for that and he seems very full of himself which is good to see. I wish I showed the same zest when I got up in the morning!”

The multiple Group 1 winner is an 11-2 shot for the Hackwood with Betfair and Paddy Power.

And if he runs to expectations he will head back to Haydock in September for a fifth crack at the Sprint Cup, a race in which he has yet to finish out of the first three.

Fanshawe added: “If he runs well tomorrow we will head back to the Sprint Cup, but we want to see him run well tomorrow before we step back up into Group 1 company.”
