Nightmare start for Happy Monday’s Bez as his horse taken out of Redcar race after stalls incident

IT was not a Happy Monday for new racehorse owner Bez – far from it.

His horse Mystic Moonshadow was a a first runner for his new racing club.

Bez hopes it will be next time lucky for his new racing venture

But she refused to run for Bez, famous for his days in the Happy Monday’s band, when she played up in the stalls and was taken out of the race at Redcar just before the off.

The horse runs in the colours of both Manchester City and United, and cost connections £27,000 at the sales.

She is trained in North Yorkshire by Jedd O’Keeffe and will now need to find a new race to make her debut.

Bez, real name Mark Berry, said: “It looked like she was being a bit of a diva!

“She just didn’t want to go in the stalls so we’ll take her home for next time now.

“It’s part of it, when I went to see her yesterday she was being a bit of a diva then too. But once she gets used to it she’ll get better.

“It’s a bit of an unhappy Monday at the moment, but you know what, it’s all about the experience.

“She’ll learn from the experience, but it is disappointing, these things happen.”

There were more shocks at Windsor where small-time John Bridger caused a 150-1 stunner in the opening race.

His horse won on debut despite a similar scare before the race.
