CHAMPION jockey Oisin Murphy could miss the Leger meeting after picking up a ban at Ayr.
The long trip to Scotland provided a winner for the runaway leader of the Jockeys’ Championship, but it could prove a costly one.
The stewards at Ayr handed him a seven-day ban for careless riding after Tritomba’s success in the Shadwell Maiden Stakes (4.50).
His filly appeared to drift across second-placed Ricksen in the finish, a move which prompted a closer look.
Murphy was judged to have “allowed his mount to drift left for a considerable time without sufficient correction causing Ricksen’s rider Paul Mulrennan to take a significant check and clip heels” and was banned for seven days.
The rider is currently 18 winners ahead of Tom Marquand in the championship.
The stewards report to the British Horseracing Authority (BHA) confirmed that Murphy’s suspension will take effect from September 7 to September 13 inclusive – ruling him out of Doncaster’s four-day meeting.
Murphy could appeal the ban and yet ride at Doncaster if overturned or reduced.
