Owner Promises to Buy 40,000 Beers if Horse Wins Race

A millionaire businessman and legendary horse owner, John Singleton, has made an extravagant promise to buy 40,000 beers if his horse, Hawaii Five Oh, wins the £10.3million Everest race in Australia. Despite the massive bar bill, Singleton couldn't care less and is eager to celebrate his horse's victory in style.

Desperate to Win

Singleton is determined to see his four-year-old horse emerge victorious in the 6f contest at Randwick racecourse in Sydney on Saturday. He is so confident in Hawaii Five Oh's chances that he is willing to buy a lager for every single one of the 40,000 punters expected to attend, which will cost him a staggering £155,000.

A Passion for Horses and Drinking

Although Singleton made his fortune in advertising, his true passion lies in horses and enjoying a good drink. Even at the age of 81, he is known for being a renowned party animal. His pledge to buy beers for punters comes after the Australian Turf Club announced that they would buy their members a drink if another horse, Overpass, wins the race. Singleton criticized their plans and stated that his offer is open to everyone.

Confidence in Hawaii Five Oh

Singleton firmly believes that his money-making horse, who has earned over £440,000, has a great chance of winning. Hawaii Five Oh will be ridden by top jockey James McDonald and trained by Gai Waterhouse. Singleton expressed confidence in Waterhouse's training and stated that if she is confident, then he is too. He also emphasized the importance of having the right jockey and a bit of luck on their side.

A History of Generosity

Singleton is no stranger to dipping into his own pockets to provide racegoers with a pint. In the past, he has paid for drinks for an hour at a meeting in Menangle and even bought drinks for every punter in 19 pubs along a 45-mile stretch of road. However, his most extravagant spending spree came after winning the 2000 Golden Slipper with Belle Du Jour. Singleton recalls the epic celebration and the surprisingly manageable bar bill.
