PAUL NICHOLLS will look at Cyrname’s breathing after he ‘choked’ in his Ascot flop.
Harry Cobden pulled up the 5-4 favourite in the Betfair Ascot Chase won by Dashel Drasher.
The 11-time champion trainer says there is no chance Cyrname will go to next month’s Cheltenham Festival.
And instead he will be examined to see what can be done about his breathing – after Cobden reported the horse just ‘stopped quickly’ in the Grade 1 contest.
Nicholls told the Racing Post: “He choked and struggled, which he’s had problems with throughout his career. He’s had plenty of ops.
“We’ll have a little look and see what else we can do before the end of the season, but if he can’t breathe, he can’t win. It’s as simple as that.
“We’ll see what’s affecting him. When he could get away from them, and a couple of years ago the ground was a bit better, he could have a breather.
“But now he’s under a bit of pressure because they know how to beat him and he’s never getting a breather.
“He roars his head off, which is what’s stopping him.”
Cyrname’s only win in his last five outings came in the Charlie Hall Chase last October.
The nine-year-old has been pulled up in his last two outings and fell before that Wetherby triumph.
Nicholls added: “Cyrname is an enigma and a challenge but I’m sure we’ll get him right for another day.
“He definitely won’t go to Cheltenham but if we got him right Aintree would suit him well or Sandown.”
