Powerful Breeze set Group 1 comeback mission with Breeders’ Cup on the agenda for Hugo Palmer star

POWERFUL Breeze is on the comeback trail with Newmarket’s Group 1 Sun Chariot Stakes the aim.

Hugo Palmer’s star was a one-time 1000 Guineas favourite but faced a spell on the sidelines following a freak fall on the gallops.

Powerful Breeze was edged out by Quadrilateral in last year’s Fillies Mile where she had Love behind her

The three-year-old is back in work after recovering from a broken rib, with Palmer hoping to run her in the Group 1 at Newmarket on October 3 before a potential trip to the Breeders’ Cup.

She shot into limelight last year after an impressive win in the May Hill Stakes which forced Palmer into supplementing her for the Group 1 Fillies’ Mile.

Palmer told Sun Racing: “She’s recovered entirely in line with expectations and hasn’t seemed to have changed much, she looks as fast as she was.

“Touch wood she hasn’t had any setbacks so far and she’s been training well.

“She has an entry in the Sun Chariot and that’s the first obvious place we could see her back.

“Then the Breeders’ Cup has to be on our mind. That would be firmly on the agenda if everything goes right, as long as the owner thinks that’s right too. It’d be the Fillies and Mares Turf for her definitely.”

European raiders have a good record in the race, with Iridessa, Wuheida and Queen’s Trust all winning there in the past four years.

But Palmer also has half an eye on next season with a solid programme for four-year-old fillies in the calendar.

Palmer added: “It could be we run her once and then just put her away as you don’t know until she does come back. She’s had an ordeal this year.

“Provided she comes back and retains her ability, I know her owner Dr Ali wants to keep her in training.

“Hopefully we might just get more of a normal year as there is a great programme for horses like her starting with the Duke Of Cambridge at Ascot, the Falmouth, the Matron, the Prix Rothschild.”

Meanwhile stablemate and Northumberland Plate winner Caravan Of Hope is set to run in the Cesarewitch next.

Palmer said: “Caravan Of Hope didn’t get in the Ebor, we’ll try again next year when it’s back up to a million pound prize!

“We’ll run him in the Cesarewitch now, but he’s one we’re excited for next season.”
