Presenting Percy cut for Gold Cup and Grand National after impressive Thurles Boomerang Chase win for Gordon Elliott

, Presenting Percy cut for Gold Cup and Grand National after impressive Thurles Boomerang Chase win for Gordon Elliott

PRESENTING PERCY was trimmed for the Gold Cup and Grand National after bouncing back to form in the Boomerang Chase.

Gordon Elliott’s star saw off a high-class Listed field at Thurles to win over fences for the first time since the 2018 RSA.

Presenting Percy moved to Gordon Elliott’s from Pat Kelly over the summer

The win opens up all sorts of options for the nine-year-old who was having only his second run for Elliott since moving from Pat Kelly.

It was nip-and-tuck for much of the way between Kemboy, Monalee and Presenting Percy.

But after Monalee cracked two from home, Presenting Percy quickly asserted over Kemboy to run out a cosy winner.

Betfair shortened him to 16-1 for the Gold Cup and 20-1 for Aintree.

Winning rider Jack Kennedy smiled: “He did it very well.

“He had fitness on his side but he put in an exhibition of jumping and quickened up well at the back of the second-last.

“I had sat on him previously at home, but he is very straightforward and is a dream to ride.

“He jumps and travels away and I was happy at all stages. I was delighted with the way he travelled and I was nearly half-taking him back going across the top I was going that easy.

“That win might do him the world of good and hopefully he can keep going after that.”

Despite their defeats, both Kemboy and Monalee were left unchanged at 16-1 for the King George at Kempton on Boxing Day.
