Progressive four-year-old Sir Busker ‘not making up the numbers’ in Celebration Mile at Goodwood

, Progressive four-year-old Sir Busker ‘not making up the numbers’ in Celebration Mile at Goodwood

WILLIAM Knight reckons Sir Busker can hit all the right notes at Goodwood on Saturday.

His stable star hasn’t missed a gig this summer and lines up in the Group 2 Celebration Mile.

Sir Busker is set to tackle the Celebration Mile

The four-year-old won impressively at Royal Ascot in June – but he has been on the end of some rotten luck in big handicaps at Glorious Goodwood and York since then.

Knight said: “Who knows what would have happened at Glorious Goodwood, he got no run whatsoever, but at York he got a bit too far back and was in front a stride after the line, which was very frustrating.

“He seems to have bounced out of the York race well and they’ve rated him 111 now so he deserves a crack at a race like this.”

Torrential showers on Friday turned the ground heavy at Goodwood, but Knight says Sir Busker won’t be put off if the mud is flying.

The upwardly mobile son of Sir Prancealot is 15-2 with Betway, with the market headed by the high-class Benbatl.

Knight continued: “I saw the forecast and it didn’t look like it was going to be a big field, so we thought we would chance it.

“I’m not worried about soft ground, he quite likes it. I’m hoping it keeps raining and the race could cut up and we could have a few non-runners.

“It’s a big step up, going from handicap company into a Group 2, but he is an improving horse this year.

“I think he goes there with every chance, we certainly aren’t there to make up the numbers.

“We all need these sort of horses who take you to the big meetings each month, he has been fantastic this year for us and for his owners Kennet Valley.

“He has really strengthened and matured mentally over the winter. I didn’t expect him to improve as much as he has but he has been great.”
