Punters demand to know ‘who on earth allowed that?’ after Frankie Dettori’s only ride wins at ‘silly’ price

PUNTERS were left asking ‘who on earth allowed that?’ after Frankie Dettori’s only ride at Kempton won at a ‘silly’ price.

The world’s most famous jockey, 52, was in Surrey on Wednesday night for the ride on Tamarama.

Dettori banged in two Group 1 wins on Soul Sister in the Oaks and Emily Upjohn in the Coronation Cup at Epsom last week.

And he continued that strong form by making all on the Ralph Beckett-trained filly at Kempton.

That Dettori showed his rivals how to get it done was no surpise.

But punters were in shock at the horse’s starting price.

Usually it’s a clue a horse has a good chance if a rider goes to a meeting for just the one mount.

But whether it was a lack of money behind it or the bookies just hadn’t cottoned on, Tamarama was sent off 8-1.

Victory was never in doubt, with 9-4 fav Prepense hammered by five lengths in sixth and even runner-up Marksman Queen a convincing three-quarters-of-a-length behind.

One viewer applauded Dettori on the ride but admitted: “You know when things look too good to be true!”

Another said: “This is getting silly. Who on earth allowed Frankie Dettori’s ONLY ride at Kempton to go off at 8-1.”

One commented: “Can’t believe the price.”

And another wrote: “Frankie’s only ride at Kempton, a tip in itself.”

Dettori is enjoying a relatively quiet couple of weeks before his global farewell tour rolls onto Royal Ascot.

The jockey is forever linked with the Berkshire track owing to his Magnificent Seven in September 1996.

Before that however come a couple of key rides at Haydock this Saturday.

Dettori is jocked up on the top-rated Mimikyu in the Group 3 Lester Piggott Stakes – a race he will be keen to win for his idol.

And before that comes the ride on Equilateral in the Listed Sky Bet Achilles Stakes.
