Livid Punters Outraged
Punters are furious over what has been described as an "absolutely pathetic" decision to reverse placings and ban the winning jockey in a controversial race at Kempton.
The Race and the Controversy
In a 1m3f Class 5 handicap, jockey Daniel Muscutt rode Intergalacticat to victory, crossing the finish line first. However, controversy arose when it was determined that Intergalacticat had cut in front of Open Champion, causing jockey Liam Keniry to lose momentum on his horse. Despite finishing first by three-quarters of a length, stewards reversed the placings, declaring Open Champion the winner.
Backlash on Social Media
The decision caused an uproar on social media, with many punters unaware of the interference or unconvinced that Open Champion would have beaten Intergalacticat. Some called the decision "an absolutely disgraceful decision" and "absolutely pathetic." Another comment accused the British Horseracing Authority (BHA) of trolling the public, saying, "These decisions are making horse racing a joke."
Impact on Prize Money
Not only did the decision to reverse placings anger punters, but it also had a significant impact on the share of prize money. The owners of Intergalacticat saw their first-place prize of £4,187 slashed to just £1,964.
