Punter’s ‘unbelievable’ move turns meagre £4 horse racing bet into thousands

ONE punter was celebrating a genius cash out after turning £4 into almost £11,000 with an ‘unbelievable’ bet.

The Betfair bettor somehow managed to find five straight winners at Hamilton last Sunday.

But needing Aqwaam to win the last to land the jackpot, they shrewdly decided to take the money and run.

It proved the right call as the Ian Williams-trained horse, who was sent off 7-2, finished an unplaced fourth.

Betfair spokesman Barry Orr said: “It’s an unbelievable bet to land for just £4 quid.

“The races came one after another and his excitement levels must have been building throughout the afternoon.

“Luckily for him he opted to cash out as if he hadn’t, he would have had a zero return on his bet with Aqwaam finishing fourth of nine runners in the concluding race of Hamilton’s card.”

The punter placed a £2 each-way punt on the six-fold.

Quintus Arrius landed the 4.15 at odds of 16-5 before My Little Queens obliged in the next by just a neck under a strong ride from Oisin Orr.

David O’Meara’s Pisanello made it three in a row when he won the mile handicap at 5.15 worth a bit more than £15,000 to connections.

They found Jordan Electrics at 17-2 in the next before Geremia went in at 9-2 following that.

The bet paid more than £30,000 in all but the punter by this point probably believed they had used up all their luck for the day.

They took the £10,812 and no doubt sat back smugly after seeing Aqwaam flounder in fourth.
