QIPCO 2000 Guineas: Field of 15 declared with Pinatubo hot favourite and Frankie Dettori on one for Aidan O’Brien

HOT favourite Pinatubo will face 14 rivals as he puts his unbeaten record on the line in the QIPCO 2000 Guineas.

Charlie Appleby’s star is an odds-on shot for the first Classic of the season, run over a mile at Newmarket’s Rowley Mile.

Pinatubo in a league of his own at Glorious Goodwood last season

But he won’t have it easy and Irish maestro Aidan O’Brien has declared four runners despite the travel restrictions in place.

Arizona looks his main hope – with Ryan Moore booked – but he has also called on the services of Frankie Dettori to ride the exciting Wichita.

Royal Dornoch – to be ridden by Tom Marquand – and New World Tapestry complete the Coolmore quartet.

Of the remaining British runners, the bookies have Andrew Balding’s Kameko and Ralph Beckett’s twice-raced Kinross down as the other serious dangers to Pinatubo.

Appleby also runs Al Suhail, while fellow Godolphin operator Saeed bin Suroor sends in his unbeaten Military March.

Roger Teal is aiming to ruffle some feathers on the big stage again – two years after Tip Two Win was second at 50-1. He has the exciting Kenzai Warrior, with Jason Watson booked.

Mum’s Tipple, Starcat, Juan Elcano, Persuasion and Cepheus all complete the lineup as outsiders.

The action at Newmarket gets going tomorrow, but on Friday the Group 1 Coronation Cup steps it up a notch. The QIPCO 1000 Guineas is the feature on Sunday and the runners for that race will be declared tomorrow.
