RACING at Wincanton has been abandoned prior to the last race following a nasty fall for jockey Major Charlie O’Shea.
The jockey was competing in the 3.50 2m4f novice hunters’ chase when the accident occurred.
O’Shea was riding the Syd Hosie-trained Paudie when he was unseated at the second fence.
As a result, the jockey was airlifted to hospital and the last race of the day has been abandoned.
The clerk of the course, Daniel Cooper, has confirmed the decision to focus on getting O’Shea the medical help he needs rather than get the last race underway.
Cooper said: “Charlie unseated in the last race and he’s still receiving medical attention.

“The doctors want to focus on that and we only had a bumper to go, we felt we need to focus on that with the medical resources we have here today.
“A second air ambulance is now in attendance.
“As soon as Charlie is fully stabilised we’ll be able to provide more details.”
Well wishes are pouring in for O’Shea.
Fellow jockey Harry Cobden said on Twitter: “Thoughts and best wishes are with Major Charlie O’Shea.”
The 2021-22 season has been O’Shea’s best to date.
O’Shea claimed three victories, including in the Royal Artillery Gold Cup and Grand Military Gold Cup on Rolling Dylan.
