Racing fans blown away as ‘big gamble’ horse slashed from 16-1 to 4-1 comes from dead last to win easily at Newcastle

RACING fans were blown away when a ‘big gamble’ horse slashed in the betting came from dead last to win easily.

Rohaan still looked miles out of it with just a furlong to go of the 6f sprint at Newcastle yesterday.

Fans were shocked when the horse in dead last came through to win easily
The eventual winner looked miles out of it with just a furlong to go
But the monster gamble was landed when the horse passed the post in first

But jockey Andrew Mullen navigated the David Evans-trained horse perfectly through the other 12 runners to pass the post in first.

What is even more amazing is there was very little to suggest in either of Rohaan’s previous two runs that he was capable of such an incredible burst of speed.

The two-year-old bay gelding was a 150-1 shot when beaten by 13 and a half lengths on his previous outing at Kempton on November 11.

Prior to that he finished ninth of 13 and 20 lengths behind the winner when a 100-1 chance at Newbury in October.

Rohaan switched trainer from George Scott to Evans between those two contests.

And it seems word had clearly got out that the horse had potential as money poured in for him before the off in the 4.45 at Newcastle.

Previously 16-1, his odds were cut right down to 5-2 at one stage before he won at 4-1.

Those who bet on the horse in-running were able to get much bigger odds.

One punter got on at massive odds… but with a tiny stake

And one punter was able to back Rohaan at a massive 250-1… but only won £22.41 because they put just 9p on it!

Aside from the money won or lost, viewers were amazed at the thrilling finish.

One said: “Excellent ride. And what a training performance to improve the horse so much.”

Another commented: “This is incredible.”

A fellow fan wrote: “How the actual feck did he get there and win so cosily.”

Another tweeted: “16-1 into 5-2 at one point. Absolute job and a half. Congrats to those part of the gamble!”

One comment read: “What the hell just happened there?”

Gambles are part and parcel of racing.

However, the Horseracing Bettors Forum last month urged the British Horseracing Authority to investigate the background of another big one.

Bushypark trounced the field by 11 lengths at Hexham after being backed from 16-1 into 7-4.
