Racing fans confused by ‘messed up’ photo finish that mistakenly shows three horses on line rather than two

RACING fans were left confused by a photo finish showing three horse on the line rather than two due to an optical illusion.

The Monday race at Wagga came down to a photo finish after the naked eye struggled to pick a winner.

Pouring Rain was eventually given the race ahead of Coin Drop despite the images looking like a dead heat.

Coin Drop was even called as the winner by commentator Anthony Manton, but the judge line gave it the other way.

And fans were raging with the camera appearing to show a mirror image of the winner.

A Twitter user explained: “The 2 heads you can see is the same head because of mirror reflection.

“Can just see the top of the white nose of second place just above and slightly in front of the eye of the winner, looks about a half head margin there to me.”

And one replied insisting they’d ‘messed up’ the photo.

He said: “I think now that I’ve stared at it to know what they are trying to show.

“We are seeing the 5 twice… we see the 5 outside and then the mirror of the 5 inside.

“The 2 with the blinkers is in the middle. We shouldn’t see three heads, so they messed up.”

And other racing fans were annoyed about the angle of the camera.

One wrote: “The real concern is that the line they are using is not aligned properly.

“It should be passing across the nose in the same spot with the margin being the same in the reflection.

“It’s out of whack which could cause an issue in a close finish.”

Another wrote: “Puzzling.”
