Racing Gossip: Trackman is back with the latest paddock talk as he lines up some bets at Epsom on Derby day

, Racing Gossip: Trackman is back with the latest paddock talk as he lines up some bets at Epsom on Derby day

GET ready for D-Day!

Forget the Arc or Dubai World Cup – there isn’t a race that can lay a glove on the Derby.

But this roller-coaster circuit is harder to fathom than Donald Trump’s barnet and you need the luck of the Irish to get home in front.

That has never been a problem for Tipperary genius Aidan O’Brien who is gunning for a record breaking eighth win in the race.

Laughing boy Ryan Moore had the pick of Aidan’s six runners and has dropped his hat on talking horse Mogul.

The banter from Ballydoyle is that this fella has turned inside-out since a Royal Ascot pipe-opener.

And that chat has been backed up with hard cash according to Betway’s spokesman Chad Yeomans, who said: “Mogul and Ryan Moore have been very popular with our punters since the jockey bookings were announced.

“But we laid English King at 40-1 and again at 14-1, so he’s the biggest loser in our book.”

Andrew Balding gives less away than the Inland Revenue but I hear he’s been getting jiggy after watching Kameko fly up the gallops.

Suspect stamina is the issue for our 2,000 Guineas hero.

But top-jock Oisin Murphy is a better judge of pedigrees than Debretts and reckons the colt has every chance of getting home.

And if this big boy stays, he should win.

By the way, Kameko isn’t the only `live’ one mighty Murph rides today.

The reigning champ partners Ed Walker’s Caradoc in the Investec Handicap (3.00) and I’m told clever faces close to the horse are getting ready to flex their wallets.

Wily Walker’s crew reckon this fella is a class act and will have their chins nailed to the deck if he fluffs his lines.

Talking of that, what were the suits at the British Horseracing Authority thinking when they ignored a Covid-19 lockdown to hold a meeting at Leicester on Tuesday.

As dopey decisions go this was right up there with David Beckham’s sarong.

Top trainer Alan King was spot on when he said: “Deep down it could be a PR disaster for racing which we don’t need.”

Kingy’s horses have been in blinding form but he drew a blank when jump racing resumed at sunny Southwell on Wednesday.

Punters pal Olly Murphy bossed that card, saddling a 136-1 four-timer which included the strongly fancied Sangha River (3-1 to 6-4).

This fella makes fewer appearances than Halley’s Comet, but big Olly reckons he’s a proper horse so stick him in your notebook.

Meanwhile, what a week it’s been for West Brom hitman and racing nut Charlie Austin.

Champagne Charlie owns a few with Richard Hannon and notched up a double when two of his horses did the business at Windsor on Monday.

And he completed a long-range hat-trick by whacking one in the onion bag for The Baggies against Sheffield Wednesday a couple of days later.

Finally, we might have to call Poirot to work out why Hollie Doyle isn’t riding at Epsom today.

The `pocket rocket’ is hotter than a Saturday night curry and booted home four winners and a couple of seconds from six rides at Wolverhampton the other night.

But she’s still stuck at Yarmouth rather than playing with the big boys at Epsom this afternoon.

Answers on a postcard please.
