Racing punter lands one of the biggest wins EVER after scooping £281,000 from just £7 bet despite three picks losing

A LUCKY racing punter was celebrating one of the biggest wins ever after scooping £281,000 from just £7 – despite three of their bets losing!

The bettor wiped the floor with William Hill after placing a series of multiples on the racing at Southwell on Tuesday.

On a bizarre day of results across the UK, the punter somehow managed to unearth winners at prices of 150-1, 66-1, 25-1 and 8-1.

It meant that even though they failed with further 100-1 and 25-1 selections, they secured the six-figure payout after a number of freak finishes.

None of them was more surprising than Alchemystique in division one of the 2m maiden hurle at 2.30pm.

The Steph Hollinshead-runner, making her debut for her new stable, absolutely bolted home under jockey Charlie Hammond to win.

And Hollinshead was as shocked as anyone, saying to the Racing Post afterwards: “I can’t believe it to be honest.

“We knew if she could string everything together that she’s shown us at home she could run a perfectly creditable race, but was there confidence to say we could win? Absolutely not.

“I bought her in the summer for some very loyal owners of mine who love their jump racing and I’m absolutely chuffed for them.”

It was 13-year-old Tiquer who started things off in style with victory in the 12.25 at odds of 25-1.

Beaten 52 lenghts on his previous start and without a win since December 2019, top jockey Daryl Jacob rolled back the years to win the 2m4½f chase.

Schiaparannie was an easy winner in the next at odds of 8-1, having actually been backed to 11-4 just before the off.

Silver Star and Stunsail – 100-1 and 25-1 respectively – were beaten in the following races but the winning run continued in the freak circumstances with Alchemystique.

Radetzky March was next up but that horse finished last at 25-1 before Irish Sovereign – beaten a combined 237 lengths in his five previous career starts – landed the last at 66-1.

William Hill spokesperson, Rupert Adams, said: “It’s fair to say one punter had his crystal ball out this morning as he managed to pick winners at 8-1, 25-1, 66-1 and 150-1 over the jumps at Southwell.

“Having staked just £7 on multiples before racing got under way, the customer surely couldn’t have believed his luck when Irish Sovereign won the finale at 66-1 netting them £281,246.23 in the process.”

Had the punter put a quid on the four-fold they would be more than £2million better off.

Despite being a sleepy Tuesday, it was a huge day of winners for a lot of punters everywhere.

Another won £1,470 from just £9 after picking out two 66-1 winners in a Lucky 15.

While one bettor was £800 better off from just a £3 stake after finding 66-1 and 80-1 winners at Newcastle and Southwell.

Spare a thought for this punter though, who missed out on £10,000 despite all of their picks winning.
